Taking a Leap of Faith

My adventure finding Camp Kintail was a unique one. It was late 2020 when we were all stuck in our houses due to the coronavirus pandemic and I happened upon a Facebook post from Camp Kintail. I had never been to Kintail and as a matter of fact had never heard of Kintail but having grown up with a love for camp I decided that I wanted to learn more. One thing led to another and I ended up applying to be on staff for the summer of 2021. While excited for this new adventure I would be lying to say I wasn’t nervous, there were many times where I wondered if this was the right plan for me and debated not going to camp. In these moments of doubt I relied on scripture to get me through. I chose to trust in God’s plan in sending me to camp and decided to take a leap of faith, and it is this leap of faith that I am so grateful for today.

From the moment I stepped on site in 2021 to today I have been welcomed with open arms and Camp Kintail has quickly become my home away from home! I have now enjoyed two summer seasons and one spring season on staff and every year I come back I am continually amazed by the beauty and wonder that camp has to hold. As I reflect on what has made my experience thus far at camp special, a few certain things pop out to me, so I thought I would share my top two favourite things about Camp Kintail…

Number one is the people.  The people are hands down my favourite aspect of Kintail, I love getting to see the campers smiling faces every morning and having the opportunity to see them grow as individuals. Camp has also provided me opportunities to meet some of my best friends! I think the best way to describe camp is that it is a place where worlds collide, you get the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and all over the world!

My second favourite thing about Kintail is the scenery. Whether it’s running through the cedar forest playing gauntlet, swinging at the swing circle or sitting on the beach deck, I never get tired of the scenery at camp. I could spend hours sitting by the lake listening to the waves lapping on the sand and in my mind a Lake Huron sunset is a must see. Camp is one of the places where I feel most connected to God because there is ample opportunity to immerse yourself in his beautiful creation!

If it hadn’t been for taking the leap of faith and coming to Camp Kintail for the first time, I don’t think I would be where I am today. The people at camp have helped me to become a better person and have helped me to learn that we are created to be so many amazing things! Thank you to all the staff, campers and guests who have made my journey thus far at Kintail one to remember! I look forward to making many more memories at Kintail in the years to come! For anyone who may be nervous to come to camp for the first time, take the leap of faith because it just might change your life!
