Dear friends,
A little while ago, I watched a documentary called, "Mr Dressup: The Magic of Make Believe." If you grew up in Canada anywhere between 1967 and 1996, Mr. Dressup, Casey, Finnegan, and the Tickle Trunk were likely a part of your childhood. Mr. Dressup was a grownup who never forgot the power of dressing up, using your imagination, creating art, and being a good friend. These are all values at Camp Kintail as well! Our costume closet is even called "The Tickle Trunk!."
Campers love a dress-up meal when the buckets of costumes are brought out of the Tickle Trunk. You never know what you may see at the meal - campers dress up as fruit, Santa Claus, pirates, prom queens, and so much more! It is a time of true fun and joy. It is a chance to play and pretend. As we approach Halloween, it is a chance for children (and adults) to dress-up and pretend. But perhaps, we need to encourage imagination and play in more areas of our lives. When we allow fun and creativity into our lives, we open ourselves up to joy and delight. Mr. Dressup and dress-up meals have a lot to teach us!
With joy,
Theresa
